Barney Richard

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague Barney Richard. 

Barney was a great person, great company and great at his job- nurturing and selling directors.

This from Isabella Parish, Barney’s business partner in their new venture All Of Us Here and friend:

Barney was at the heart of our industry for two decades. He left his mark on Jelly, Friend, RiffRaff, Rogue, Friends Electric, and finally, as cofounder of All of Us Here.

He was a great friend to many of us. And few could match his huge personality. Or his big Barney hug.

Anyone who came into contact with Barney felt bigger and better for it. He made you laugh. He made you think. He made you question the universe.

Always ready with a story, he could talk business, the state of the world, and the latest episode of Rick & Morty all in one breath.

And so it should surprise no one that his favourite book was Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which somehow better understood the very Barneyness of Barney than any of us ever could—

”There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.” 

In that spirit, Chris, Lee, and I are organising a celebration of his life on 1 February.

We’ll be sharing memories, films, and stories in the main screening room at ALL IS JOY from 4-6pm.
