The APA 2025 D&I Strategy

We are seeing a troubling trend of major companies scaling back or even axing their DEI initiatives, but that’s not the way we or our members work – we have made a commitment to improving DEI and we will persevere toward those goals. There is more to do and this is a call to action.

We are kicking off 2025 with the collaborative Diversity, Equity & Inclusion To-Do List. This is a set of action points which we believe our membership can make a real impact with.

Our aim is to encourage the advertising production industry to adopt more comprehensive actions on DEI by supporting companies in setting annual targets.

This To-Do list was developed following the Diversi-Tea event at Kinsale 2024,
which you can read more about here

An integral part of this initiative – and step 1 of the To-Do list – is ensuring you have a DEI policy in place.

To adhere to this, you can create your own policy or adopt the APA Code of Conduct template, which contains a DEI section (page 10). We also have a Diversity & Inclusion policy available, which you can use on its own, if you prefer.

  • Script consultations to help develop authentic and inclusive narratives.
  • DEI business consulting for your company, which we also offer through Antoinette de Lisser’s bespoke services.

Addressing Casting Practices

With support from the APA, we are encouraging members to:

  • Engage in open discussions with agents about casting briefs in order to promote genuine representation and address tokenism.
  • Promote the IPA’s Casting Brief template.
  • Encourage agencies and advertisers to engage members’ diverse director rosters.
