Role Overview
The Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing strategic financial insights to support decision-making. You will work closely with our production and management teams, handling budgets, reporting, and ensuring smooth financial workflows for multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the company’s financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
- Project Accounting:
- Create and monitor project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
- Track production expenses, allocate costs, and report variances.
- Liaise with production teams to forecast costs and margins accurately.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Prepare and file VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
- Payroll Management:
- Process payroll for permanent and freelance staff, ensuring accurate tax and pension contributions.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with employment laws.
- Strategic Planning:
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings.
- Support the preparation of financial forecasts and annual budgets.
- Contribute to strategic planning discussions by providing financial insights.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Education:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent certification (qualified or part-qualified candidates will be considered).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within the creative or production industry.
- Proven experience managing project budgets and cost tracking.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) and Excel.
- Knowledge of UK tax laws, including VAT and payroll regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with non-financial stakeholders.
